I started Bandit out of my Brooklyn basement apartment smack dab in the middle of the pandemic, 2020. The first product was cushioned running socks in white and black. I hand-packed every box and wrote a personal thank you note for supporting this little venture of mine. Each order meant so much to me and they still do.
Premium Running Apparel | Bandit Running
Performance Running Apparel & Clothing
Meticulously crafted running singlets, tops, shorts, tights, sweats, hats and socks. Born in Brooklyn, refined by the NYC Running Community.
What is Bandit?
You definitely already know this, but a "bandit" in running is someone who sneaks in to a race without a proper bib. The original bandit is Bobbi Gibb, who defiantly raced the 1966 Boston Marathon before women were allowed to compete. At the time, females were deemed “physiologically incapable of running the 26.2 mile distance” by the incredibly wrong race director.
EST. October 19, 2020
Hello, hello, hello. This is Tim West, Bandit founder, here. It feels very odd to answer this question (and create the timeline below) in the third person, so I've decided we'll do it live! #AdminReveal. I'm more of a behind-the-scenes type of person, so bear with me here as I recount the fast, crazy, and blurry last 6 years of Bandit.
Today, Bandit is a full head-to-toe apparel brand, putting on experiences, and telling stories that aim to breathe fresh life into the sport we love. Community always has been and always will be the center of everything we do and we're proud to be supporting runners around the globe from Olympians to first-timers.
2020

My mailman Ramirez would meet me behind the USPS drop-off location so I wouldn't have to pay the $1 per box fee at the store. It sounds small, but it meant a lot—and more than anything, it was emblematic of the support I received along the way from friends and strangers alike. Over the course of a year, I spent every last dollar to my name—reinvesting everything I made (and had) into photoshoots, better packaging, larger orders, etc.
BANDIT IS BORN
The first batch of Bandit socks arrive to my basement apartment in Brooklyn. It was incredibly exciting and slightly overwhelming. There's Ramirez—the mailman I mentioned in the intro holding up a hoodie I gifted him as a thank you for all the help. I hope he's doing well.
CHASE THE THRONE
Cooper from Trials of Miles calls to ask if I wanted to give socks as a prize to the racers who advance to the second round of Chase the Throne (a Covid era DIY race series). Bandit gets on the feet of some great peeps in the NYC scene.
2021

Little by little, with the NYC running community rallying behind Bandit, especially my friends from Brooklyn Track Club, the socks and the brand caught a glimmer of fire. Each new sock release would sell out faster than the last. People began asking for different products that I wasn't personally equipped to make, but it gave me hope for something larger down the line. Almost exactly a year later, I decided to take the leap, part ways with my day job, and go all-in on a mission to Evolve Running (more on that below) with a few other brave souls.
Community Spotlights Lead the Way
From the jump, Bandit's Instagram was a series of photos spotlighting our friends and teammates in the NYC running community training, racing, and setting FKTs. Shoutout to all the OGs.
Bandit x LOSTBOYS at the Olympic Trials
Tim Rossi, founder of the cult classic Lostboys, reaches out to support Bandit with socks for their Hood to Coast team. We'd soon after collab on custom socks for the '21 Olympic Trials. Rossi would go on to be one of the first full-timers at Bandit and our current Head of Experiences and Good for the Sport Projects.
The Final Release for Bandit As we knew it
The 2021 NYC capsule marked our final release as a "sock brand." I left my day job to go all-in on Bandit and announced to the world we'd be back in a few months with a big announcement...
Ardith & Nick Join As Co-Founders, Steve to Lead Community
I convince my brother Nick to jump ship from his job and join me as Bandit's CEO (he was mid-MBA with a second baby on the way). Shortly after a mutual friend (shoutout Syd) introduced me to Ardith who I asked to join on the spot during dinner as we rambled for hours on how we can innovate on products for runners. Steve Finley, also took the leap after a (clearly) very convincing post-Brooklyn Track Club practice conversation over a beer or four at Union Pool.

Bandit HQ Opens, the New Brand is Revealed
We open our HQ in Greenpoint and invite 150 of our closest supporters in to re-launch the brand and christen the space. Our friends at View Source designed the new identity and Andrew & I finished the launch video about 45 seconds before we showed it.
the first issue of our bi-weekly newsletter, the B-Mail comes out
96 issues later (and counting), The B-Mail remains our rawest expression of the brand and brings you 5-ish stories from inside and around the Bandit universe.
PROTOTYPE WEAR-TESTING AT THE SPEED PROJECT
9 months before our first performance apparel release, we took a handful of iterations of singlets, split shorts, half-tights, and race crops out to the desert to put them to the test. Whole squad remains Bandit fam to this day with John, Evan, and Ale in full-time roles at the company.
The HQ Race & Bandit Relays
Before there was the Bandit Grand Prix, we hosted some small, humble races right outside the office on West Street (no relation).
Becoming the Sponsor of The Brooklyn Mile
The race in our backyard put on by Brooklyn Running Company became a Bandit summer tradition unlike any other: run a mile as fast as you can and party at BK Backyard after.
OUR FIRST PERFORMANCE COLLECTION
Our first-ever performance collection, "Centricity", themed on a Running OS update informed by a year of community-centered feedback and insights. Ardith moved heaven and earth to get this out for Fall marathons. (Will update with pics of her on factory floors in due time.)
Bandit x NBRO
Our dear friends from Copenhagen, NBRO, welcomed us with open arms. We created a single cotton tee together and popped up under a tent in the backyard at Løberen.
Bandit Air
Joe Hale, Rich, Pebble, and myself snuck around the TWA hotel at JFK and shot Bandit Air—a small lifestyle capsule for cozy Fall marathon travels.
Our First OTQ Program
In it's very first edition, we supported four local NYC athletes (Erin, Brendan, Jean, and Lilly) to chase their dreams in Berlin of punching a ticket to the Olympic Trials.
Our First NYC Pop-Up
The beginning of a full circle moment, we popped up with our homies at Whalebone in the West Village for a NYC pop-up that consisted of heat-pressing stickers on any of your Bandit items. A couple years later, Whalebone would pass the keys over to us for our permanent Manhattan Flagship.
Bandit x Hué Thi Hoffmaster
An artist collaboration well ahead of it's time (for us). We worked with world-renowned painter, Hué Hoffmaster on a small "Upstate Capsule". Of anything we've made, this stuff might fetch a niceeee return on StockX these days.
2023

Our Brooklyn "Flagship" Opens in Greenpoint
View Source, the small design shop that did our branding, were leaving their office down the street from Bandit HQ. At a modest $2,800/month rent, we decided to try our hand at opening brick & mortar. While it's not the grandest flagship of all time, we'll always have a soft-spot in our hearts for it.
Greenpoint Runners Begins
Our beloved Greenpoint needed a run club to bring neighbors together. Four easy miles every Saturday morning followed by coffee & bagels. Come one, come all.
First LA Pop-Up In Venice
This was our first real pop-up experience. Learnings were had. One of them being, the spiritual connection between NYC and LA running communities was incredibly strong. Today, we have a permanent flagship in Silver Lake.
Inaugural Bandit Soccer Capsule
Once a year, we create limited edition home & away soccer kits to celebrate the sport that got us into running in the first place. The first year, we hosted a 4v4 tournament at The Ground in Chinatown.
Which way to Boston?
Our first Boston Marathon pop-up, “Good Hill Hunting”. We setup shop in a tiny space on Newbury and debuted our first edition of “post-race portraits”, which have now become a staple of our pop-up weekends.
Joe Greer Joins the Squad
Legendary film photographer and helluva runner, Joe Greer, tweeted he has a dream of signing a contract with a brand to both run and shoot. We got on the phone with him no less than an hour later and the rest is history. Joe’s wife Maddie took some portraits of Joe for the announcement.
The Unsponsored Project Debuts
The very first edition of the Unsponsored Project supported a handful of runners, including Courtney Okolo, at the USA Track & Field Championships. A brainchild of Tim Rossi, the Unsponsored Project flipped the professional running model on its head to give overlooked athletes the best shot to chase their dreams.
"The Program" Launches to Support Local Marathoners
With help from our new partner (at the time) ASICS, “The Program” launches to support local marathoners training for NYC. We now have Programs in Boston, LA, and Chicago and have supported thousands of runners across the finish line with low-cost group training and resources.
The Seadog 120 with Noah
We teamed up with our NY neighbors, NOAH, to race two teams from Brooklyn to Amagansett. It was vibes galore. While the Seadog was a one-and-done, experiences like this helped shape our thinking as we grew and ultimately introduced the Bandit Grand Prix.
Following our cotton tee collab in 2022, we returned a year later with our Copenhagen family, NBRO, to create the race kits ahead of their hometown half. CPH has and will always remain one of our favorite cities in the world to hangout and run in.
Jordan Year in Chicago
This one felt like a creative breakthrough and helped pave the way for future world builds. Our hero runner, Ty Liv, channeled his inner prime Mike Jordan for a recreation of the 90’s Bulls locker room.
The World's Marathon
The video started tight on a subway seat as a runner (Bandit OG—Smooth B) sits down in his race kit and finisher medal on. The camera pulled back revealing the subway is actually a set he’s getting his medal portrait taken in. Our first time “breaking the wall” creatively, which would help inspire our 2026 LA Marathon campaign.
OTQ Program at CIM
Coming off the first year, an evolved version of the OTQ returns at CIM with a small group of trusty Bandit runners helped pace athletes to hitting the standard. One of the most legendary videos in our history came to be with OTQ’er Duriel Hardy clinching the time with 1 second to spare.
2024

Supporting Local Athletes at the Olympic Trials
The final leg of our OTQ Program took a handful of inspiring local athletes down to Orlando for the Olympic Marathon Trials. Youngster, Habtamu Cheney, made a top 25 finish paving his way to a bright future in professional marathoning.
Our Manhattan Flagship Opens for Biz
In the same space that hosted our first-ever NYCM pop-up, we opened our first true flagship store with our pals Rhythm Zero to run the café side. John became “Construction Worker”, a legendary character that we should 100% bring back.
Bandit for SVG at the 2024 Paris Olympics
We received a DM from a dear friend who said his coworker, who was moonlighting on SVG’s Olympic Committee, was in need of a new brand to make their team kits. We jumped on the opportunity and outfitted the two track athletes, Shafiqua Maloney and Handal Roban. Shafiqua went in ranked 28th in the world and left 4th, narrowly missing bronze and the country’s first-ever medal. It was a Cinderella story unlike any other.
Bandit x Berlin Braves
Three years in the making, we teamed up with our family at the Braves to create a capsule that celebrated the connection of NYC and Berlin brutalism. Word has it Joey’s still wearing the balaclava today.

The Program
Week 1: Find Your Starting Line
As you begin on this 12 week training journey make sure to slow down and take stock of where you are, where you have been, and what you would like to get out of this training experience. No matter what those answers are, there are a couple fundamental things we would suggest:
Build consistency. In the first few weeks it’s more important to formulate and get comfortable with your routine than increasing mileage volume. Find the days/times that work best for you and lock in on committing to as much consistency in your training schedule as possible.
What are you gaining from this journey?
Guidance by Mari Dottschadis M.S.c.
Week 2: Plan Your Progress
As you get settled into training, continue to be realistic about where your specific starting line should be. Whether you're coming off a 60-mile week or you haven’t run a step in a year, make the commitment to kick off this training cycle slowly and intentionally. With every new journey, comes new variables. Here's a checklist to work through for week two...
Decide On Your Daily Schedule: The Program plans assign interval work on Tuesday (or Wednesday) and long runs on Saturday (or Sunday). Note that these are just suggestions and you should aim to adjust your days to your personal needs. No matter when you decide to schedule workouts, remember to leave at least 48 hours between hard efforts.
Which weekdays and times of day can you sustainably commit to running?
Week 3: Explore Your Goal
This week’s message is all about your initial goal setting and reflecting on the opportunities ahead (before things really start rolling). Often when I meet with athletes, I ask them “what are you looking to accomplish this season?" Their minds usually fly straight to race day. But, before they say a pace or time goal, I encourage them to consider how they got here, asking, why did you sign up for the race to begin with? What will be motivating you to slide your shoes on and step out the door each day? For many its achievement, imposing discipline, health, friendship, family, or a combination of reasons.
There will be challenges over the next weeks – physical, mental, emotional struggles. They will annoy you, make you doubtful, angry, upset. You’re human. You get to be upset when something that’s important to you is not going well. The key is not to not suffer. The key is to suffer and know that that’s part of the journey – and then keep going.
Who can support you the best when you hit a rough patch?
Week 4: Discover Your Paces
Last week we talked about exploring your goals and this week we are expanding on that theme with a sharper look at your individual paces. Each of your goals may be different but the road to achieve that specific fitness is very similar, through proper application of efforts through pace. This week’s workouts are a great place to experiment with where you’re landing on the pace chart. For the interval workout you’ll be aiming to start at Half Marathon pace and finishing with Interval #1 pace while in the long run we’ll be focused on Tempo pace.
One of the most meaningful things an athlete can understand is this: Focusing on winning is not going to help you win. Focusing on execution will.
Process over outcome. Then outcome will follow.
Week 5: Manage Your Training Load
Mileage, workouts, strength, work, family, social life, travel, and the list goes on. No matter where or how you live, the combined forces of a full life can be a lot, especially when you’re working toward a major goal like a marathon. As we enter week’s 5-7, what I often refer to as the “danger zone” of a training cycle, it is extremely important to stop, take a breath, and examine these forces and make any necessary pivots ahead of the impending workouts and longer runs in the coming weeks, this is called managing your training load.
Prioritize your long runs. Your full week of training is important but if you need to pick one, be sure to prioritize your long run ahead of all other runs, even if it means missing 2-3 other days that week.
What can make a run / workout special for you? (list alllll the reasons!)
Week 6: Maximize Your Recovery
This week, coming off our longest run so far, I am again asking you to take a long look at your weekly routine. Why do we do this every other week you might be asking? It’s because training to be a better runner is extremely straightforward, it is almost 100% about creating and sticking to a great routine that revolves around when you run, how intentionally you run and how you rest your body between efforts.
Halfway. Whether your journey has matched your expectations so far or not, it’s time to look back and reflect on how the past 6 weeks went and what you can learn from it for the next 6 weeks. Below you will find 2 questions that I ask every athlete after a big workout, a competition or an important test.
What went well during the past 6 weeks? (name at least 3)
Week 7: Challenge Your Comfort Zone
Moving toward the higher volume weeks of training you will begin to see larger workouts on both interval and long run days. These numbers can be intimidating, especially on a tired mind and body that is already 7 weeks into a training cycle. As you approach the weeks ahead I will challenge you to consider a few things that will hopefully ensure you're protecting your mind and body as you take on the most difficult weeks.
Put the Intention on Workouts: Big week ahead? Take an extra day off or maybe even two days off, know that the important days are the workout days, the other days are maintenance.
How do you know that it's going well without looking at your mileage, number of runs or reps, hours of training, your pace or your workout splits?
Week 8: Examine Your Goal
When you started this training cycle, you had a goal in mind. This week, knowing what we know now, it's time to examine that original goal. Think through and ask yourself a few questions...
How's my body holding up on long runs? Long runs will always be the most important day of the week; think critically about how you've felt and how the pace changes have impacted you toward the end of the runs.
What helps you to truly enjoy your training?
Week 9: Embrace Your Volume
This week we want you to pause and reflect on your volume—all your hard work that you've balanced with everything else in your life. This part is generally overlooked until the week of the race, but doing so now will drive you to finish strong. Embrace your work and let the confidence build. You may feel tired, that's expected and it's what the tapering weeks ahead are designed to help with. Stay locked in. This week we are revisiting some speed work and hitting our final longer run of the build up.
When did comparison with others helped, encouraged or inspired you in the past?
Week 10: Plan Your Performance
This week it's time to finally start to visualize yourself standing on the starting line. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and begin to image what you are wearing, who you are with, the energy in the crowd around you, suddenly, after 12 weeks of effort and sacrifice you're released onto the road and start to settle into your race, now, where do you go from there?
3 weeks to go. With your big day getting closer, it’s time to evaluate and shape your outcome goals and set some process goals.
Instead of just picking one goal, define an A, B and a C goal.
Week 11: Welcome Your Taper
This training cycle has been a series of mini-cycles designed to develop your aerobic fitness through the process of stress and adaptation. You have battled the weather, injuries, exhaustion, and everything else life threw at you the past 12 weeks. Recovery is the name of the game now and doing it right will drop your level of fatigue to zero and simultaneously skyrocket your fitness (which is why they call it peaking). Take your recovery and lack of workouts seriously.
How would you notice that you are running a good race without looking at splits, current elapsed time or your place / position?
Week 12: Run Your Race
The half marathon is a chess match. The miles will fly by and you'll need to be patient while also knowing exactly when to go. That gradual push towards a strong finish is a work of art and it's on you to make the masterpiece.
Know where your people are. Plan ahead and know where you’re going to see people. Whether it’s your parents, teammates, club or crew members or your friend Jeff who’s still out from the night before, hold those locations in your head and do your best not to give them too much of your energy as you pass by.
Three things are beneficial in the last days before your race: confidence, gratitude and a calm attitude.

PUSH THE SPORT FORWARD. SUPPORT MORE ATHLETES.
Our big vision is to be the world's most community-centric brand. Co-creating products, stories, and experiences hand-in-hand with runners from around the globe.
[01] Products
Every fabric, feature, and silhouette comes by way of community feedback paired with our design sensibilities. All new items get put through rigorous wear-testing before ever being made.
Four times a year we host community feedback nights to discuss how we can continue improving on the products we create each season.
[02] Stories
Collection films, capsule worlds, athlete docs. No two story the same—we set out to create videos that would make our younger, home-movie making selves proud.
The Evolution Report: Summer ‘26. Every season, Bandit Co-Founder & Chief Design Officer Ardith Singh, breaks down her top ideas and innovations from the collection.
[03] Experiences
From our marquee race, the Bandit Grand Prix, to our marathon training group "The Program", and our race weekend pop-ups around the world—we love nothing more than bringing the community together to hangout, connect, and grow our passion for running.
[04] Athletes
The Unsponsored Project aims to solve a problem in professional running where athletes receive no monetary compensation from the brands whose products they wear on the track during competition.
The Unsponsored Project
We provide these unsponsored athletes with cash for flights/hotels/anything else they need, a duffel bag full of our finest 100% unbranded gear to represent themselves, and a 14 day contract featuring an immediate opt-out clause if another brand comes along with a larger deal. To-date, 12 Unsponsored Project athletes have gone on to sign traditional deals with the big gunz.
The Unsponsored Project Takes Off
We supported 50 athletes at the US Champs with cash and unbranded kits to represent themselves during completion. Sports Marketing creator Jordan Rodgers creates a short-form explainer video (unbeknownst to us), which racks up millions of views and puts Unsponsored Project on the map.
